Body Scissors

The second police procedural/noir to feature ex-New Yorker Dan Reles, the only Jewish cop on the Austin police force, BODY SCISSORS is set in early 1991, during the turbulent outbreak of the first Gulf War. A white homeless man on the orders of a local drug lord deliberately targets Virginia Key, an African-American defense attorney and community leader, killing her five-year-old daughter and putting her nine-year-old son in a coma while she watches in horror. While Reles and Sergeant James Torbett (who becomes sexually obsessed with Key) investigate the case, several local college students die from an inexplicable illness, and Reles`s girlfriend Rachel desperately tries to bury the ugly, traumatic secrets of her past before they destroy her relationship with Reles.
