A late play by the famous Russian author, first published in 1901. It portrays the hopeless provincial life of the Prozorov sisters--Olga, Masha, and Irina--who yearn for excitement and glamor but whose hopes are dashed when their brother marries a woman they dislike and mortgages their house. Later on, the army garrison, whose officers provide the only glamor the sisters have known, is moved from the town, and Irina`s fiancee is killed in a duel. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005.
